Lead Paint Removal in Danville

Livermore Lead Paint Removal handles lead paint removal, testing and lead-safe renovation for Danville houses built before 1978, working within California’s Title 17 rules from the first inspection to the final cleanup.

Danville’s housing is 92% single-family homes and 14.5% of homes are rented. By the 2020-2024 ACS, 51.1% of homes predate 1980, 9.7% predate 1960 and 1.8% predate 1950, which puts 41.4% in the 1960 to 1979 range. Expect wood trim, garage doors and fascia from those decades, and test before assuming anything from the age of the street.

1960s and 1970s houses

Houses from those decades can have painted wood fascia, window trim, garage doors and stucco. Because the ACS groups 1970 to 1979 in one bin, some of the homes that fall in that bin were finished after 1978. Test the components you plan to touch. See exterior lead paint removal.

Remodels and additions

Owners may update a kitchen, add a room or open a wall. In a pre-1978 house that is EPA renovation work: certified firm, certified renovator, sealed rooms and a cleaning check. CDPH’s renovation rules under SB 1076 are still pending. See lead-safe renovation and remodeling.

Inspection and testing

Danville buyers of a pre-1978 house have a federal 10-day window to test, and the tester must hold a CDPH Inspector/Assessor certificate; the findings go on Form 8552. The options are on lead paint inspection and testing.

Removal and abatement

Removal that counts as abatement is carried out by crews led by a CDPH-certified Supervisor. The Form 8551 notice has to reach CDPH five or more days ahead and be posted at the site, and the area is contained and left free of visible dust.

Sealing and interim controls

Sound paint can be sealed under a coating or covering. A fix designed to last under 20 years is an interim control, and 20 years or more is abatement. See lead paint encapsulation.

Old Town Danville and older houses

Danville’s older buildings are around Old Town. The Town publishes a historic walking tour of 12 sites, including the Grange Hall on Front Street, the Southern Pacific Railroad Depot and several houses on Hartz Avenue. The tour is a guide to buildings, not a designated historic district.

If your house is on or near those streets, ask the Town’s planning staff whether any review applies before you change the exterior.

Heritage walking tour

The tour is on the Town’s website and covers buildings from Old Town. Use it to see which houses are old, and treat it as history, not as a list of lead paint.

Contra Costa County resources

Alameda County’s Healthy Homes grants stop at the county line, and Danville lies in Contra Costa County. The state’s county directory lists a Contra Costa Health childhood lead poisoning prevention program at (925) 608-5318, and you can ask whether the county has lead repair funding for a Danville address.

Frequently asked questions

Is Danville in Alameda County?

No. Danville is in Contra Costa County, so Alameda County Healthy Homes grants and programs do not apply to Danville addresses. Livermore Lead Paint Removal is based in Livermore, which is in Alameda County, and also covers Danville.

Do newer Danville homes need lead testing?

Not for lead paint. A home finished in 1978 or later is outside the federal pre-1978 rules, so testing is mainly for older homes or houses whose build year you cannot confirm.

Who can test a Danville home for lead?

Hire an Inspector/Assessor holding a CDPH certificate when you want an inspection or risk assessment. A Project Monitor’s certificate stretches only to clearance. What buyers and contractors rely on is the certified report.

Back in the valley, our Pleasanton page covers a city with an old downtown inside a mostly newer housing stock.
